This blog is basically for me to describe how i feel about crap that goes on, and to try to find my old friends who i haven't seen in ages.

john kerry

while i will not play into politics over no more than a botched joke, i still find it strange. why would he not apologize right away, and why would he accuse the White House of misinterpretting his comments(which by the way were read word for word including the 2 lines before the joke). however, it was a bad joke... not the end of the world.

The thing that is interesting about it to me--and I agree, far too much ink has been spent on this already--is that how one truly feels tends to come out in a "joke."

In fact, you could almost argue that there is no such thing as a joke--just "plausible deniability" enhanced by humor.

The other way to look at this is that Kerry himself was the butt of his own joke, if in fact it was a joke (and whatever the joke was meant to convey)--his whole career is built on the foundation of his military service.

Another way to look at this is that if we micro-analyze every little joke that comes out of a politician's mouth on a stump speech--we will get the politicians we "asked for": Distanced, aloof, calculating, humorless, and robotic.

On a totally related note....the monkeys did not see me, I spotted them. You need to train these monkeys to be a little more subtle. I mean c'mon, flinging poo to create a diversion?!?!

All Kerry did there was make himself look like an ass infront of a lot of people. He should have restructured that joke a little bit better than he did.

As much as I hate to admit that USA Today did something right, THIS is a pretty good synopsis of the Kerry joke and the subsequent political fallout. In short, when you hand the Democrats victory on a silver platter, they send it back to the chef...
