Iran (part 2)

Very Funny thing just happened not too long ago. Time magazine wrote, almost word for word, 2 of my theories and ideas on Iraq and Iran. #1 They wrote what echoed my theory for the overall reasons for the invasion of Iraq, not just a few. They actually covered 4 of the reasons i had stated. #2 They wrote about how we missed a good chance with Iran. I was watching Lou Dobbs the other night, and a proffessor from Rutgers University came on and stated how we should offer Iran a "carrot" aka a genuine act of peace. However, he also said that we should offer them a stick under the table also. I think i'm gonna email that dude, and tell him he rocks almost as much me and Stephen Colbert. Here is the Iran part 2 thing......

There are 2 main reasons that Russia and China are blocking sanctions against Iran, and supporting them in the background. First, it's oil. Russia and China are major importers of Iranian oil, and while we don't import their oil they do. Second, shift of global power. Since American spheres of influence are weakening, a nuclear Iran that cannot be diplomatically touched by the US or EU makes these 2 regions look weak...especially the US. Russia and China have collaborated on weakening US hagemony. First through economic destabilization, by China's trade imbalance and lowered currency to keep American companies buying American goods. Second, by opposing American policies in many places to make it appear that there is global opposition everywhere. Check this out... South America: Venezuala(a staunch socialist ally of China and Iran) opposes and moves against all American policy in the region; they even have gone as far as destabilizing pro American governments. Middle East: This one is simple, Iran. Russia has been selling it top of the line military equipment, most of which is designed to counter American weapons. Recently they were sold air craft targeting systems. China has been buying into Iran's infrastructure, and also selling weapons. Both China and Russia have blocked and refused sanctions against Iran, despite blatant violations. Africa: China is buying oil from Sudan(listed as a state sponsor or terrorism by the US) and putting money into their infrastructure. Asia: North Korea's nuclear program. China and Russia have known about it for years. Both China and Russia have blocked and refused sanctions against North Korea, despite blatant violations. Europe: Russia has poisoned many. They cut off gas to pro- American states. They press Georgia(a pro US govt.) to move back in line with Russian policy, and have deported Georgians. Russia has also moved away from democracy. Pacific States: China has built naval facilities in the Phillipines. There is a strategic positioning happening against strategic defensive infrastructure for American and allied security. If you are rising to power and claim peace, why position like this, ally with American enemies, and block execution of international mandates? The worst part is that our government knows about all of this, but do nothing. They do nothing, because our process is broken. The Congress no longer answers to voters, just to campaigning. Debt is rising, the dollar is weaker, spheres of influence are weak, and spending is out of control... as we ask our allies to learn from history, we don't even see that our current state reflects exactly the late stages of English hagemony, Roman hagemony, and even Chinese Hun hagemony. It can be changed, but it looks like the Congress cares too much about money, and partisan politics. I still have complete faith in the military and my leaders, so if anyone did decide to take us head on we'd give em hell....but could the debt persistent government pay for it?

You are making a lot of good points--

Here is my nightmare scenario: US pulls out of Iraq by June 2007.

Iran--lest we forget, a bitter enemy of Iraq for decades--steps in to fill the power vacuum.

We now have a government run by a apocalyptic leader who believes strongly in a Muslim version of the Book of Revelations who has nuclear weapons and the ability to veto OPEC policy.

Basically, you have the ancient empire of Xerxes the Great, only anti-Semitic and with 32 nuclear bases.

The wild card is Israel. Will they just sit by and commit slow suicide, or will they choose to go to their execution kicking and screaming?

I am voting for kicking and screaming.

There are too many people with memories of the Holocaust there, and they are very geographically close to REAL anti-Semitism, not just what Americans CALL anti-Semitism, like jokes on TV or whatever.

Solution #1--

(I published too quickly--)

US finds an Iraqi strongman it can tolerate.

He would have to be the most charismatic politician since Tito in Yugoslavia.

Does he exist?

I doubt it...but basically right now Iraq is an octopus without a head. Of course, there is a danger in the US propping up a loose cannon--viz. bin Laden, Sadam, etc.

Did Ken Lay really die? Does he speak Arabic? He has energy industry experience...

i agree. Saddam may have just been exactly what Iraq needed, but our plans were different. We'll see how it plays out, because Israel has vowed not to allow Iran to have any nuclear weapons. This may be one of the reasons why Bush is moving towards a gradual pull back, and as one classified memo stated, a major pullback by mid to end '08. This was Iran could only retaliate against Israel, who has an excellent Air Force, radar system, and anti aircraft and missile capabilities.

I notice 'anonymous' has either lost interest or been silenced.

I'm actually rather envious of your strong opinions and views of how dealings in Iraq are happening; to be honest, as a consumer of the media and not much more, I'm lost in the mess, so it's affirming to see some first hand views :)
